The Applied Mathematics: Institute for Analysis and Numerics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Münster (WWU), Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Doctoral Research Associate
Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin/ Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter
(salary level TV-L E 13)

at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term part-time position (75% FTE) for 3 years.

Your tasks:
The position is in Prof André Schlichting's research group and focuses on mathematical research in the dynamics of complex systems. Towards this goal, methods of partial differential equations and stochastic analysis are combined and optionally complemented by numerical analysis. The position is tied to working towards a doctorate. The successful candidate will benefit from the stimulating environment and facilities of the Cluster of Excellence "Mathematics Münster: Dynamics – Geometry – Structure".

Our expectations:

  •  a master's degree in mathematics (or a comparable degree)
  •  good skills in at least two of the following fields - partial differential equations, stochastic analysis, calculus of variations, general dynamical systems
  •  interest in the rigorous mathematical analysis of the dynamics of complex systems, basic knowledge of optimal transport, large deviations or interacting particle systems and some programming skills would be welcomed
  •  ability to work both independently and in a team
  •  a high level of motivation and enjoyment in scientific work
  •  good English communication skills
  •  German language skills are not a requirement but a willingness to learn would be desirable
