The School of Mathematics and Statistics seeks to appoint a Professor in Applied Mathematics. The appointee with be expected to engage in high-quality research, actively contribute to teaching, and undertake relevant administration within the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
You will have an outstanding track record of national and international distinction and leadership in research, bringing external recognition and distinction to yourself and the University. Applications for the post are welcome in any research areas in Applied Mathematics that complement the existing strengths within the School. The Applied Mathematics Group’s current research activities include continuum mechanics (nonlinear elasticity, mechanics of materials, fluid-structure interactions, magnetohydrodynamics), mathematical biology (collective animal behaviour, bioconvection, spatial and evolutionary ecology) and mathematical physiology (soft tissue mechanics, blood flow).

The School of Mathematics & Statistics is the home of the mathematical sciences within the University of Glasgow. It is one of the seven Schools which constitute the College of Science and Engineering, which in turn is one of the four Colleges within the University. The School is large, growing and diverse. It offers full undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at all levels and it undertakes research of high international standard. We have research groups of international excellence in all three of the main areas of the subject, traditionally described as pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics, although we increasingly have research activity which blurs these descriptions.
