The "Scientific Computing" group at the institute of mathematics (IfM) is inviting applications for a position as Doctoral or Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) TV-L E13 (100%) for a duration of three years, starting as soon as possible.
The position is part of the research group “2337 – Denitrification in Agricultural Soils: Integrated control and Modelling at various scales (DASIM)” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The research group will contribute to a better understanding of denitrification (the microbial conversion of nitrate to nitrous oxide or molecular nitrogen) and a better quantification of the emission of green house gases by denitrification. Central aim of the project in Clausthal is the development of new one- and multi-dimensional models at the continuum scale based on pore-scale modelling of microbial growth conducted in an ongoing project. The models will be applied to measurement data of our project partners at the universities of Gießen, Göttingen and Hanover, the Thünen-Institute, the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Halle and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Ås.
We offer a fascinating challenge in a dynamic, internationally oriented research field with a high degree of individual responsibility. Flexible work conditions and attractive qualification opportunities await you. The possibility to obtain a PhD is given, but we will also accept applications from persons already holding a PhD degree.
We expect strong interest in high performance computing and the modelling and numerical simulation of processes in porous media. Applicants should hold a master degree in mathematics, natural sciences or engineering related to modelling and simulation. A solid experience in scientific programming with C++ and a good basic knowledge of the numerical solution of partial differential equations is required. We expect the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and the readiness to contribute to teaching.
The promotion of equal opportunity and diversity as well as the providing of a family-friendly working environment are important to Clausthal University of Technology. Preference will be given to disabled applicants with equal qualifications.
We welcome applications from qualified candidates of all nationalities.
Interested candidates should send their certificates, their CV describing background, training and research interests and a statement regarding their previous experience with modelling and simulation and their programming skills in C++ as a single PDF (max. 10MB) with the keyword “denitrification” to email@example.com until December 31, 2019.
For questions regarding the research project please contact the head of the scientific computing group Prof. Dr. Olaf Ippisch (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Application costs are non-refundable. After completion of the selection process the submitted application documents will be destroyed compliance with legal requirements.
