The Mathematical Institute in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Heidelberg University invites applications for a
Junior Professorship “Geometry Plus” (W1, non tenure-track)
to be filled September 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be for six years and subject to applicable restrictions with the status of fixed-term civil servant.
We are seeking a mathematician with a strong and interesting research profile in Geometry, who also shows an openness towards applications, computation or visualization. The successful applicant will find a stimulating research environment. He/She will get the opportunity to become a member of the newly founded Research Station “Geometry and Dynamics” and to take on a leading role in building up an experimental geometry lab. Furthermore he/she can collaborate with research groups at the interdisciplinary Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS gGmbh).
There is ample opportunity to participate in existing third party funding, for instance the Cluster of Excellence STRUCTURES, the Research Training Group 2229 “Asymptotic invariants and limits of groups and spaces” or the collaborative research center CRC/TRR 191 “Symplectic structures in geometry, algebra, and dynamics”.
According to the applicable regulations for Juniorprofessors (Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung Baden- Württemberg), the teaching load is four hours per week. The regulations concerning evaluation can be accessed through the Human Resources Division of Heidelberg University.
In accordance with Section 51 of the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act (Landeshochschulgesetz Baden–Württemberg), candidates are expected to have an outstanding dissertation in mathematics, internationally recognized publications, and teaching experience. For applicants who have held academic positions before or after their doctorate, the duration of pre- and post-doctoral employment together should not exceed six years.
