The University of Klagenfurt is pleased to announce the following open position at the Department for Didactics of Mathematics at the Faculty of Technical Sciences with an expected starting date of 1 March 2023:

 

Assistant Professor (postdoc) with QA option (tenure track) (all genders welcome)

 

Level of employment: 100%

Minimum salary: € 56,861.-- per annum (gross), classification according to Collective Agreement for University Staff (in German: “Kollektivvertrag für die ArbeitnehmerInnen der Universitäten”): B1 lit.b

The Department for Didactics of Mathematics is the Austrian Educational Competence Centre for Mathematics. It provides an established, vivid, friendly, and research-oriented environment with international networks and third-party funded research projects. Our department members (of whom 70% are female) welcome new academic perspectives and support young researchers on their way to excellence.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

·         independent research in mathematics education with the aim of habilitation

·         independent delivery of courses using established and innovative methods totalling 4 teaching hours a week (and 8 teaching hours a week with tenure)

·         participation in in-service teacher training programmes

·         participation in the research, development and teaching projects of the department

·         acquisition and management of third-party funded projects

·         supervision of students

·         participation in organisational and administrative tasks and in quality assurance measures

·         contribution to expanding the international scientific and cultural contacts of the organisational unit

·         participation in public relations activities

 

Prerequisites for the appointment:

·         either doctoral degree in mathematics education (in German: “Mathematikdidaktik”) for secondary education or doctoral degree in mathematics with an additional standing in mathematics education research

·         publications in mathematics education and other achievements related to the discipline (e.g., awards, presentations)

·         teaching experiences in mathematics education and/or mathematics at tertiary level

·         good proficiency in the German and/or English language (at least one on level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and commitment to quickly reach level B2 in both languages

 

Additional desired qualifications:

·         experiences and/or success in acquiring and managing third-party funded projects

·         experience as a teacher of mathematics in secondary education

·         acquaintance with the Austrian educational system and reality in secondary schools

·         scientific curiosity and enthusiasm for teaching

·         administrative and organisation skills

·         communication and presentation skills

·         gender mainstreaming und diversity management skills

·         leadership and teamwork skills

 

Our offer:

This tenure track position includes the option of negotiating a Qualification Agreement (QA) in accordance with Section 27 of the Collective Agreement for University Staff (in German: “Kollektivvertrag für die ArbeitnehmerInnen der Universitäten”) for the areas of research, independent teaching, management and administrative tasks, and experience gained externally. The employment contract is concluded for the position as Assistant Professor (postdoc) with QA option and stipulates a starting salary of € 4,061.50 gross per month (14 times a year; previous experience deemed relevant to the job can be recognised in accordance with the Collective Agreement). Upon entering into the Qualification Agreement, the position shall be classified as an Assistant Professorship with a minimum gross salary of € 4,782.30 per month. Upon fulfilling the stipulations of the Qualification Agreement, the post-holder shall be promoted to tenured Associate Professor with a minimum gross salary of € 5,175.50 per month.
