The Chair of Scientific Computing at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU)
is seeking to fill a position starting 01.07.2024 or later as a

Research Assistant / PhD Student (m/f/d)

part-time (50%). The position is limited for one year initially (to find a topic) with the possibility of an extension. The remuneration is based on the TV-L (Collective agreement of the federal states). Academic qualification as part of a doctorate is desired and will be supported accordingly.

Your Tasks:

·       Research in mathematics with a focus on scientific computing and independent participation in research and
publication projects of the chair

·       Participation in the courses of the Institute of Mathematics (usually in German) to the extent of 2.5 semester hours per week

Our Requirements:

·       Independent working style, ability to work in a team and above-average motivation

·       Interest in research at the intersection of kinetic theory and transport problems, classical mechanics and quantum mechanics,
optimal control and numerical analysis - ideally demonstrated by a thesis in one of these fields

Recruitment requirements:

·       Completed university degree (Master's, Diplom or 1st state examination) in the field of mathematics, mathematical physics or physics
