The Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) in L’Aquila (Italy) is seeking highly qualified and strongly motivated candidates for 10 Ph.D. positions made available for the doctoral program in "Mathematics in Natural, Social and Life Sciences". The official call for applications is published here.
The Ph.D. positions are fully funded for the duration of four years and are inclusive of an internationally competitive salary, research allowance, free accommodation, and additional benefits. The positions come with no teaching duties. English is the official language of the program.
As part of the first year of the doctoral program, students are invited to attend a selection of graduate courses offered by the Institute. Only at the end of the first year students are required to choose a research project and a thesis advisor. Further details on the structure of the program can be found here.
The application deadline is January 10, 2025 (at 3pm CET). Applications are submitted through the GSSI application portal. The start date of the Ph.D. program is November 1, 2025.

In addition to the application materials, applicants may provide up to two referees' names and contact information. If nominated, the referees are contacted for a reference letter or informal response by the selection committee as part of the evaluation process.

GSSI is a world-renowned research institute and school of advanced studies. The Institute is located in L’Aquila, a culturally vibrant town in the centre of Italy, which also hosts the University of L’Aquila and the nearby INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratory.
