The Mathematics Department of the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for an endowed Mellon Chair, to begin Fall 2026. Mellon Chairs are the most prestigious academic appointments at the University of Pittsburgh. Applicants should hold a Ph. D. in mathematics or related disciplines, have an outstanding research record, and be acknowledged leaders in their fields of expertise in the mathematical sciences. In addition to scholarly accomplishments, the Department expects and highly values excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The applicant should be committed to taking a collaborative leadership role in advancing the research profile and national and international reputation of our department. The appointment will be at the Full Professor level.
We favor candidates with a record of creative scholarly collaboration as well as outstanding individual productivity. We ask that applicants demonstrate how their research and teaching interests would contribute to or augment our current research strengths:
