The Department of Statistics and Econometrics (chaired by Prof. Dr. Roxana Halbleib) at the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Research Assistant Position (PhD) starting with October 1st, 2025 or later in the area of Financial Econometrics, Empirical Finance or Machine Learning in Finance.

The appointment (75% TVL-E13) is for an initial period of three years with the potential for renewal.

The successful applicant needs to have (or she/he is about to have in a foreseeable future) a master degree (or comparable) in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics or Data Science and good knowledge in econometrics, time series and/or empirical analysis. The successful candidate will contribute to the research of the chair in the field of financial econometrics, empirical finance or machine learning in finance with the focus on using high-frequency financial data. The teaching load for the position is of 3 semester hours per week.

Proficiency in a programming language and in English is obligatory, while proficiency in German is not mandatory, but advantageous.
