Job Description

The Technische Universität Chemnitz and the Technische Universität Ilmenau are offering a DFG-funded PhD position (3 years, 75%) at the interface of Optimal Control, Systems theory, and Numerics. For the official announcement, see

The project considers energy-optimal control of infinite-dimensional port-Hamiltonian systems. The focus (theoretical or numerical) can be adapted to some extent. Further information on the project can be found at https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/554600805?language=en.

The joint project is based in both Ilmenau and Chemnitz; we are flexible with respect to the specific arrangement of the working conditions and the place of work.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration in the DFG-funded project “Energy-optimal control of infinite-dimensional port-Hamiltonian systems with application to adaptive building control”

  • Research at the interface of numerical mathematics, partial differential equations, and optimal control

  • You will use your research results for scientific publications and your own academic qualification. This is a position intended for further academic qualification.

If you are motivated by collaboration in an interdisciplinary, highly motivated team and by academic engagement with a topic of high practical relevance, you should meet the recruitment criteria in accordance with § 73 SächsHSG and, in particular, bring the following qualifications:

  • Completed academic university degree in mathematics or a comparable discipline that qualifies for the corresponding level of qualification

  • Basic knowledge of mathematical optimization and numerical mathematics

  • Knowledge of a programming language (e.g. Python or MATLAB)

  • Knowledge in at least one of the areas of partial differential equations, mathematical systems theory, or optimal control is an advantage.
