The research group of the Emerging Fields project “A New Geometry for Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and Beyond” at the University of Vienna is pleased to announce openings for up to two two-year PostDoc positions. The research focuses on Lorentzian Geometry, General Relativity, Metric Geometry, and Optimal Transport.

Funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), this project offers the opportunity to join an active international research group working on problems at the interface of mathematics and physics. The positions are expected to start in autumn 2026 (October or later).

We are seeking highly qualified candidates with a strong background in at least one, and preferably several, of the following areas:
• Lorentzian and Riemannian Geometry,
• Optimal Transport,
• Metric Geometry,
• Calculus of Variations,
• Mathematical General Relativity.

The successful applicants will collaborate with the members of the PI-team Michael Kunzinger, Raquel Perales, Chiara Rigoni, Clemens Sämann, and Roland Steinbauer. They will be employed by the University of Vienna at the Faculty of Mathematics, according to its salary scheme with a gross value per year of approximately 70.2k Euros. The positions do not include teaching duties, but limited teaching possibilities will be available.
