The department of mathematics (at the faculty of mathematics, computer science and physics) at the University of Innsbruck seeks to fill the position of a full-time (40 hours per week) assistant professor as of 01 March 2018. The position is limited to 6 years. However, a tenure track agreement can be offered within the first year of employment. Upon positive evaluation the position is converted into a tenured associated professorship.



The holder of the position is supposed to do independent research in the fields of linear and nonlinear functional analysis, particularly within the research focus of the department of
mathematics with the aim to further broaden it.

The holder of the position is expected to prepare and conduct teaching at university level within the study programs of the department of mathematics (also in German), as well as to take care of students including the supervision of theses. Furthermore the holder of the position is expected to take part in academic self-government and the management of the department.



  1. completed doctoral studies in mathematics or in a related field

  2. postdoc experience

  3. relevant scientific achievement beyond dissertation/PhD level, in particular independent publication activity

  4. research experience both in linear, as well as in nonlinear functional analysis

  5. relevant publications in leading international, refereed journals and lectures
at international conferences/workshops

  6. existing international collaborations

  7. international experience

  8. experience in teaching at university level, especially in planning and conducting lectures independently, also employing modern learning technologies, and experience in the (co-)supervision of bachelor's/master's theses

  9. experience in the acquisition of third-party funding

  10. experience in academic self-administration, as well as in the (co-)organization of conferences

  11. the ability to work in a team and communication skills
