The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of

University Professor of Engineering Mathematics

at the Department of Basic Sciences in Engineering Sciences, Faculty of Engineering Sciences.

The position will be based on a permanent civil-law employment contract with the University.


The successful candidate shall represent the subject of Engineering Mathematics both in research and teaching and initiate projects both in basic and applied research. Possible profiles are in

  • Applied Analysis, Differential Equations

  • Scientific Computing

  • Stochastic Methods in Engineering Science

The candidate shall cooperate closely with adjacent fields, the faculty’s research centers and with other disciplines. Her/his research activities shall include both nationally and internationally funded projects in basic as well as applied research. They should be carried out in close cooperation with other scientific institutions and industry.

The successful candidate holds lectures in Engineering Mathematics in German and English language in the Bachelor Programs Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechatronics as well as in the future Bachelor Program of Electrical Engineering; in the Master Programs Civil Engineering and Mechatronics and in the PhD Program Engineering Science. Courses within the Bachelor Programs have to be taught in German.

Participation in academic administration and self-governance is compulsory.

Eligibility requirements

  1. a pertinent degree in higher education;

  2. a pertinent habilitation or equivalent qualification;

  3. publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals in the field of Engineering Mathematics;

  4. involvement in international research activities

  5. pertinent international experience;

  6. experience in the acquisition of research funds;

  7. didactic competence and teaching experience;

  8. social competence and leadership ability;

  2. list of publications including copies of the five most important contributions;

  3. list of talks at conferences;

  4. list of research stays;

  5. list of acquired research grants;

  6. research statement;

  7. list of teaching activities and teaching statement.

A short synopsis of the application using the form provided at the homepage mentioned below is compulsory.

The basic salary is set down in the collective bargaining agreement for university employees. Professors are in the remuneration group A 1. For the position the minimum annual gross salary before tax is 68.475,40 Euro. Depending on qualification and experience a higher salary and the endowment of the position can be a topic in the negotiations with the rector.
