We are looking for an ambitious, excellent PhD student for Applied Mathematics starting in April 2019 or later. The successful candidate will join the research group of Prof. Ansgar Jüngel at the Institute for Analysis and Scientific Computing of the Vienna University of Technology. The research focus of the group is on nonlinear partial differential equations, including the analysis of cross-diffusion systems and structure-preserving numerical schemes, inspired by applications from biology (biological cells, population dynamics) and physics (fluid dynamics, semiconductors, quantum physics). The position is based on a regular working contract including social security (30 hours/week). The pre-tax salary is about 2100 Euro (14 times per year). The PhD student will work in a project of the Austrian Science Funds, which will end after February 2021. The working contract can be extended after this period.
The candidate must have or be close to obtain a Master in Mathematics or related fields. A strong background in (nonlinear) partial differential equations (analysis or numerics) is required.
The succesful candidate will benefit from the activities of the Doctoral School "Dissipation and dispersion in nonlinear PDEs" (http://npde.tuwien.ac.at), the "Vienna Center for PDEs" (http://viennapde.tuwien.ac.at), and the Vienna School of Mathematics which will open in October 2019. Vienna is one of the most livable cities world-wide with an excellent infrastructure, a huge cultural program, and various recreational opportunities.
The Vienna University of Technology intends to increase the number of women on its faculty and therefore specifically invites applications by women. Among equally qualified applicants women will receive preferential consideration.
Please send informal enquiries to Prof. Ansgar Jüngel (email@example.com).
PhD candidates are invited to send a detailed CV, a short description of current scientific interests, and scans of the relevant certificates as a single pdf file by e-mail to Ms. Khaladj (firstname.lastname@example.org) until 28 February 2019.
